Agroloop

Agroloop is a premium quality alternative protein company that produces healthy animal feed ingredients and organic soil amendments from black soldier fly larvae. The agrotech company’s black soldier fly breeding activity provides an innovative solution to reduce the environmental impact of animal feed material production and improve soil health.

The company uses feed-grade by-products from local food processors to feed the larvae, which convert low-value biomass into high-quality feed protein and fat.

This process, following a circular economy model, has a significantly lower ecological footprint than conventional animal feedstock production: the production of insect larvae and the feed protein and fat from them has significantly lower carbon emissions than if they were produced from conventional livestock production. The resulting premium quality feed protein and oil is an excellent feedstock for pet food and livestock feed. And the soil amendment granules made from compost are used in crop production: it improves soil fertility and thus contributes to the production of high quality food and feed ingredients.

Last year, the insect protein company started the construction of its production plant on the outskirts of Üllő in Pest County. At the same time, it will soon be able to double its larvae breeding capacity thanks to its recent funding from the Blue Planet Venture Capital. The company’s long-term plans include the introduction of industrial-scale insect breeding in the Central European region.

„Outside of business, we have another very strong motivation for embarking on this venture. This is the issue of sustainability. The majority of GMO-containing imported feed proteins entering the EU travel extensively across the seas, involving enormous logistics and often accompanied by deforestation. However, compared to conventional European feed protein sources, premium feed protein can be produced from black soldier fly larvae with an ecological footprint 30-40 times smaller” says Raymond Percze, the General Manager of Agroloop.
